Maths is viewed by many as the single most valuable A-level given the options it opens for those who succeed, yet there are only about 70 schools where at least half the 18 year olds sit and pass the exam.
The top two slots in the maths table are taken by Welbeck and Concord, the specialist science schools where maths is expected of the students. The next three spaces are taken by two of the specialist Bellerbys Colleges and Cambridge Tutors. Reading School (a state school) and Winchester College come next in the list with around three-quarters of their students sitting maths. Many of the top FT schools are on the attached maths list which, in contrast to the lists showing the top performers in other subjects, is not as dominated by independent schools.
