Temps suffer as US job cuts spread

A strange thing has happened at an IBM factory in Vermont: the microchip plant has just hired some workers.

Having aggressively cut jobs as the recession deepened, the plant has seen an increase in demand and is hiring about 50 people to cope. But they have only been given temporary contracts.
