German groups slow to tap equity funding

German companies are falling behind their European rivals in using equity markets for funding because of their culture, according to senior bankers who warn the practice could hold back the country’s recovery.

German equity issues have accounted for only 3 per cent of total volume on the European market this year – a long way behind the UK with 47 per cent and France with 9 per cent, according to Credit Suisse.
