Nato to increase Pakistan relief effort

Nato on Friday agreed to step up its assistance to Pakistan in a move that would see the US-led military alliance deploy 500-1,000 military personnel in the earthquake-ravaged country.

The decision came after Jan Egeland, the United Nations' disaster relief chief, went to Nato headquarters in Brussels to ask for more aid for the many thousands of people stranded in increasingly cold temperatures.
