A visit to the headquarters of Bombardier Transportation, the world’s largest railway equipment maker, is no longer the depressing experience it once was.

That is partly because the company has just moved headquarters from a dingy, nondescript block near Berlin’s Tegel Airport to a beautifully refurbished 19th-century building originally built for the Prussian state railway administration.
