Brown rejects Argentine appeal on Falklands

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has rejected a fresh appeal from Argentina to reopen talks on the future of the Falkland Islands ahead of next week’s anniversary of its invasion of the British-ruled territory.

“The Prime Minister made his position very clear, saying that the principle of self-determination did apply,” a British official said at a summit of leftist leaders in the Chilean resort of Vina del Mar on Saturday.
