Next sales at top end of forecasts

Next on Wednesday reported sales at the top end of expectations and said it did not anticipate a worsening sales trend in 2009.

But the clothing and homewares retailer, which operates 480 stores in the UK and Ireland, said it expected cost pressures to mount next year as a result of recent dollar strength against the pound and the rising cost of sourcing clothing, particularly in southern China.
