Tuesday it is Hillary Clinton and Thurday Barack Obama. But Wednesday belongs to Joe Biden, Mr Obama’s talkative running mate, who gives the keynote Democratic address in the most important speech of his 36-year political career.
With polls showing that his appointment last Saturday has had little impact – and one from Gallup on Tuesday showing that John McCain has in fact moved into the lead – the pressure on Mr Biden tonight will be acute.
