Russian parliament votes to reform judiciary

The parliament in Russia voted on Friday to allow the president of the country to name the head of the constitutional court in a move critics say will undermine the independence of the judiciary.

The amendments to the law “On the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation” were approved by an 86 per cent majority at a second and third reading in the lower house of the Duma, or parliament.
