Energy bills should fall, say suppliers

Energy bills will fall next year if wholesale gas and electricity markets continue to weaken as expected, suppliers said yesterday after renewed pressure from the government and consumer groups.

Energy companies rejected accusations that they were making excessive profits by leaving retail prices steady, but suggested bills would fall if the decline in wholesale prices continued.
