Bird flu AstraZeneca, the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical group, announced a second deal in two days with the planned acquisition of a cancer-focused biotechnology company for $210m (£121m).
The company said it was buying KuDOS Pharmaceuticals, a privately held UK business with a DNA repair platform, in a transaction set to close in early 2006 that would help boost its strength in cancer treatments.
