Hungary’s economy shrinks rapidly

Hungary’s economy contracted faster than at any time since 1990 in the final quarter of 2008, according to data released by the government on Wednesday.

The economy shrank by 2.5 per cent year-on-year and by 1.3 per cent compared to the previous quarter, more than projected earlier, implying a contraction of 5 per cent in 2009.
