US presses on with NY airport slot sales

US transportation officials have vowed to press ahead with the sale of take-off and landing slots at New York’s three major airports, a plan that has drawn fierce opposition from airlines and local politicians alike.

Slot auctions are part of the Bush administration’s bid to relieve air traffic ­congestion in the nation’s largest city while helping to assure busy airports remain open to new entrants, assuring ticket prices remain low.
