For years, the typical overseas resident at a luxury hotel in Mumbai or New Delhi would be someone passing through the country to visit relatives or to taste the country’s myriad religious offerings. No longer.

While the country still attracts its fair share of transcendental travellers and wedding trippers, hotels in India are now crammed full of foreign investors rushing to grab a slice of India Inc.
