Central banks flag rate cuts

Expectations of lower borrowing costs in the UK and eurozone mounted on Wednesday as further evidence emerged that interest rate cuts were firmly back on central bank agendas.

The minutes of the Bank of England's June monetary policy committee meeting, released on Wednesday, revealed that two out of nine members voted to cut rates by a quarter point to 4.5 per cent.
