Malaria fight hurt by drug companies, WHO claims

The World Health Organisation yesterday named 18 pharmaceutical companies producing medicines that risked triggering drug resistance and jeopardising the fight against malaria.

Arata Kochi, the body's senior malaria official, called for the immediate end to the marketing and sale of single drug "monotherapies" based on artemisinin.
