Trimble fails to keep seat as voters back DUP

David Trimble, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and architect of the Northern Ireland peace process, resigned as leader of the Ulster Unionists after losing his Upper Bann seat on Friday night.

The party, which ran Northern Ireland from 1921 to 1970 and still had 10 seats just a decade ago, was left with just one MP after the election.
