UK producer price inflation hits 16-year high

Annual factory gate inflation reached a 16-year high in December as sterling’s decline exacerbated the impact of rising food and fuel costs, official data showed on Monday.

The Office for National Statistics said producers’ input prices rose 0.5 per cent in December – less than expected due to revisions to the previous month’s data, but bringing the annual rate of increase to 11.2 per cent.
