Think-tank urges changes to tax allowances

Sweeping changes to the tax allowances available for new business investment and research and development were called for on Sunday by Policy Exchange, a think-tank that aims to influence Conservative party policy.

The existing research and development tax credit for large firms – which costs £500m ($812m) a year – should be phased out and the money spent on innovation elsewhere, it said.
