Blunkett's security juggernaut loses a wheel

The Law Lords' ruling against the detention of foreign terrorism suspects without trial will have widespread implications - potentially affecting existing and planned anti-terror laws - as well as the fate of those interned.

The decision means that part of the Anti-Terrorism Crime and Security Act, passed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the US, has been declared incompatible with the Human Rights Act.
