California credit rating threat

California's credit rating could tumble to junk status if the state fails to approve a budget, Moody's said in a warning the state faced a "multi-notch" downgrade.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, California's governor, is trying to close a $24.3bn budget deficit and has said he will cut essential services if a budget agreement cannot be reached.
