The Norwegian head of the United Nations missions in Afghanistan hit back on Sunday at allegations made by a US diplomat that he had covered up evidence of fraud in the country’s presidential election.
Kai Eide, the UN special envoy to Afghanistan, called a news conference to try to contain the fall-out from accusations by Peter Galbraith – who served as his deputy until being fired last month – that the UN had failed in its duty to speak out.
