While the Kremlin can hardly contain its joy at the course of events in Georgia, the crisis has come as a shock to Russian business.

The country's financial markets have fallen since the fighting started, after foreign fund managers took fright leaving Russian companies with problems raising foreign credit. Meanwhile, US officials have warned Moscow that there could be economic policy consequences from the Georgian war, with possible further delays to Russia's World Trade Organisation membership bid.
