Cameron faces dilemma over unpopular DTI

David Cameron will face a dilemma if Gordon Brown does decide to axe the Department of Trade and Industry.

The Tories have historically been in the vanguard of the political charge against the DTI, accusing the department of waste, ineffectiveness and an excessive love of quangos. The last Conservative manifesto – which Mr Cameron helped to draft – pledged to slash the DTI’s staff by 80 per cent.
