CBI attacks Brown on UK tax

Gordon Brown admitted on Wednesday night that it was “regrettable” that his government had to raise the top rate of tax to 50p but insisted the measure was needed to restore Britain’s public finances.

The prime minister told business leaders at the annual dinner of the CBI employers’ group: “It was not my desire or wish to raise the top rate of tax. It’s not something we wanted the do.”
