Spain’s lenders prepare for pain to come

Spanish business leaders and politicians looking for bright spots amid the economic gloom can still take heart from the performance of the banking sector.

Unlike the US or the UK, all the country’s lenders are still intact, none has been recapitalised with state money and most are profitable. Spanish banks are conspicuous for their relative health.
