Nikko Cordial fails to dent Tokyo stocks

Reaction to companies’ earnings dominated the the Japanese stock market on Thursday, leaving the Nikkei up slightly.

Despite some severe declines in blue-chips, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.8 per cent to 17,519.50. The broader Topix also rose 1 per cent to 1,738.58.
