The Boston Globe could shut within 30 days unless union officials agree to $20m in savings, its owner, The New York Times, said last week, according to a report on the Globe's website.

The concessions would involve pay cuts, ending contributions by the company to employee pension plans and the elimination of lifetime job guarantees, according to the report citing officials from the Globe's union, which represents more than 700 editorial and business employees.
