US industrial production climbs in July

Industrial production increased in July for the second time in over a year and a half and US prices remained flat, marking an upbeat ending to a mostly disappointing week in economic data.

Industrial production increased 0.5 per cent, just shy of economists’ expectations of a 0.6 per cent increase. Other than last October’s hurricane-related rebound, the gain was the first since December 2007.
