Fed official warns on structured credit market

A significant minority of the investors rushing into the structured credit market may not fully understand the risks attached to collateralised debt obligations and other complex financial products, a senior US Federal Reserve official warned on Tuesday.

After the CDO market's recent rapid expansion, investors including hedge funds, banks and insurance companies could face large unexpected losses if the credit cycle suddenly deteriorates, he said.
