Peter Wuffli was on Thursday night ousted as chief executive of UBS, raising questions about the strategy of the Swiss banking group.

The departure of Mr Wuffli, 49, followed the board’s decision not to accept him as successor to chairman Marcel Ospel, according to a statement last night.
