Lean times give Greyhound new teeth

In October 2007, FirstGroup was facing a dilemma. Britain's leading rail and bus operator had purchased Laidlaw, the US transport group, for $3.4bn to gain access to its lucrative school bus business, but there was a hitch.

The deal also included the purchase of Greyhound Lines, the iconic bus brand that had fallen on hard times and FirstGroup did not want it.
