Seoul delays softer rules on US beef imports

South Korea’s President Lee Myung-bak was facing his biggest test since taking office in February after the government postponed a deal on US beef imports on Wednesday because of a public outcry over mad cow disease.

Seoul was due to announce relaxed sanitary standards for US beef on Thursday, implementing a deal that would reopen full access to the South Korean market for the first time in more than four years.
