Israeli forces on Tuesday night attacked the Gaza Strip for the first time since June, when the government agreed a ceasefire with the Islamist Hamas group that controls the territory. The raid killed six Hamas militants, including two senior field commanders.
Hamas responded by firing several dozen rockets on nearby Israeli towns. There were no casualties and the group ended its rocket launches early on Wednesday, suggesting Hamas is interested in maintaining the four-month period of relative calm.
