Advice on dementia drug was flawed, court told

A proper assessment of the issues surrounding the use of dementia drugs was not made by a government watchdog when it recommended withdrawing National Health Service funding, the High Court in London was told on Monday.

Launching the first direct legal challenge to guidance from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, which advised against funding the drugs for those with “mild” symptoms, lawyers for Eisai, the drugmaker, said the decision was procedurally flawed and irrational.
