TV advertising lines up festive boost

A half-billion pound ($1bn) consumer marketing blitz is under way as some of Britain’s biggest retailers launch Christmas television advertising campaigns this week.

First showings of television commercials by Tesco, Marks and Spencer, J Sainsbury, John Lewis and Next mark the start of the industry’s key trading period. Woolworths, Argos and Asda commercials are already on air.
