Advertisers feel squeeze from Chávez

A giant poster spanning six storeys of a government office block towering over Plaza Venezuela, one of the busiest hubs in Caracas, shows a fatherly Hugo Chávez embracing a beaming child. In bold letters above, it says: “Towards socialism!”

It is just one of myriad government advertisements across Venezuela promoting what President Chávez has branded “Bolivarian socialism”.
