Italian centre-right outlines programme

Italy’s centre-right government on Friday unveiled its programme for the April 9-10 national election, promising higher old age pensions, the elimination of hospital waiting lists and more police on the streets.

The ruling coalition of Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister, also sketched out proposals to improve Italian economic competitiveness by reducing labour costs and cutting taxes, but it gave no precise timetable for achieving these goals.
