Yanukovich to head new government

Ukraine’s parliament on Friday approved a new government headed by Viktor Yanukovich, ending two months of gridlock and the country’s worst political crisis since the Orange Revolution of 2004.

The vote came two days after President Viktor Yushchenko brokered a compromise agreement accepting the candidacy for prime minister of his arch-rival in return for assurances that his pro-western integration agenda would be preserved.
