Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Authority president, held talks in Gaza City with Palestinian militants on Thursday with the aim of salvaging a shaky cease-fire with Israel following a recent flare-up in fighting.

The move came as Israel's supreme court rejected a bid by Jewish settlers to overturn legislation on Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, removing the last significant legal obstacle to the pull-out scheduled to go ahead in August.
