The Japanese company due to build one of the UK’s most important train orders has had “extensive dialogue” with three potential European customers interested in buying trains built at its planned UK factory, a senior executive has said.

The discussions underline Hitachi’s interest in establishing a significant train manufacturing presence in the UK.
