FTSE rebounds for biggest gain in four years

A tumultuous week in the London market ended with the FTSE recording its biggest one-day gain in more than four years.

Sparked by the decision by the US Federal Reserve to cut the discount rate at which it lends to banks, the bounce was all the more remarkable given that only a day earlier, the index had suffered its biggest one-day slump since the start of the bull market in 2003.
