A strong performance from its core asthma and diabetes drugs helped GlaxoSmithKline, the UK-based pharmaceutical group, lift 2005 net income by 16 per cent to £6.7bn and leave open the way for potential acquisitions.

GSK said seven products were set for launch this year and a further seven would be filed for approval during 2006.
