Activists flex muscles as markets falter

Shareholder activism pressing companies for change is forecast to arise again this year.

Last year aggressive shareholder actions inspired some of the biggest corporate battles in the European markets, starting with The Children’s Investment Fund, which triggered the takeover battle for ABN Amro by urging the board to break up or sell the Dutch bank.
