Car manufacturing: Plunges in demand put brakes on a speeding industry

With spectacularly bad timing, mass production began last month at the new €1.1 bn ($1.6bn) Hyundai plant, the third car manufacturer to locate in the Czech Republic.

The first i30 model rolled off the production line in November in a glittering ceremony attended by ministers and Hyundai executives.
