Magazines urged to develop online business in battle with supermarkets

Magazine publishers need to develop their subscriptions business and online delivery of editorial in the face of the growing power of supermarkets, according to a report commissioned by the consumer magazine industry.

Apart from developing non-retail channels of distribution, the publishers need to understand the needs of the supermarkets, which are regarded by the consumer magazine industry as one of the biggest threats to profit margins, the report says.
