Bellway provided fresh evidence of the slowdown in the housing market on Thursday after saying orders had deteriorated in the last two months.

The Newcastle-based housebuilder said that since its last update on October 16 orders had fallen below last year’s levels and for the four months to the end of November reservations were 7 per cent lower than the same period last year.
