House prices rise at slowest pace this year

Recent rises in the cost of borrowing have started to temper activity in the housing market, Halifax said on Thursday, as it revealed prices rose in May at the slowest pace so far this year.

In its latest survey of the residential property market, the lender said the average price of a home was £196,893 last month, an increase of 0.3 per cent from April.
