These 54 songs are both a history of postwar Ireland and a musical autobiography of its favourite singer. Although Moore is perhaps best-known as an interpreter, these songs are all his own.

“Arthur’s Day” takes Diageo to task for hooking the youth of Eire on alcopops – it is decorously separated from “Delirium Tremens”; elsewhere St Brendan jostles with Veronica Guerin, the Quinte Brigada and the Birmingham Six.
