Youssou N’Dour
I Bring What I Love
Nonesuch
A few years ago, the Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour recorded an album with a Cairo orchestra, in praise of the Sufi saints. A documentary film, I Bring What I Love, shows him touring the record to a poor reception in his homeland, tempered slightly when it won a Grammy.
This soundtrack provides an overview of his career, from the heady mbalax of “Immigrés” to the synthier later ballads and crooning strings.
Amid the surrounding controversy, all N’Dour’s youthful fire and hunger come flooding back.
